Nuclear extrusion by erythroblasts in the peripheral blood of a splenectomized patient.

چکیده
Correspondence: Alberto M. Marmont, II Division of Hematology and Stem Cell Transplantation Center, S. Martino’s Hospital, Genova, Italy The patient was a 43 year old man who had been hospitalized because of extensive second and third-degree burns. He developed a severe hemolytic anemia over 3 weeks after the burn accident; antiglobulin tests were negative, and there was no evidence of direct thermal injury to the red cells. He had been splenectomized 25 years earlier for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma of the spleen. In the absence of the “pitting” function of the spleen denucleation of late erythroblasts could be observed in peripheral blood smears.

A study on the nuclear extrusion of mammalian erythroblast.
A study was carried out to clarify the mechanism of nuclear extrusion of mammalian erythroid cells by observing erythroblasts of rabbit under various conditions in vitro. The animals were made anemic by phenylhydrazine injection and erythroblasts were obtained from the peripheral blood and observed morphologically after a certain time of incubation. After two hour incubation at 37 degrees C, ab...
متن کاملEnucleation of primitive erythroid cells generates a transient population of "pyrenocytes" in the mammalian fetus.
Enucleation is the hallmark of erythropoiesis in mammals. Previously, we determined that yolk sac-derived primitive erythroblasts mature in the bloodstream and enucleate between embryonic day (E)14.5 and E16.5 of mouse gestation. While definitive erythroblasts enucleate by nuclear extrusion, generating reticulocytes and small, nucleated cells with a thin rim of cytoplasm ("pyrenocytes"), it is ...

متن کاملRecovery and Biodistribution of Ex Vivo Expanded Human Erythroblasts Injected into NOD/SCID/IL2Rγnull mice
Ex vivo expanded erythroblasts (EBs) may serve as advanced transfusion products provided that lodgment occurs in the macrophage-niche of the marrow permitting maturation. EBs expanded from adult and cord blood expressed the receptors (CXCR4, VLA-4, and P-selectin ligand 1) necessary for interaction with macrophages. However, 4-days following transfusion to intact NOD/SCID/IL2Rγ(null) mice, CD23...
متن کاملAbsence of erythroblast macrophage protein (Emp) leads to failure of erythroblast nuclear extrusion.
In mammals, the functional unit for definitive erythropoiesis is the erythroblastic island, a multicellular structure composed of a central macrophage surrounded by developing erythroblasts. Erythroblast-macrophage interactions play a central role in the terminal maturation of erythroblasts, including enucleation. One possible mediator of this cell-cell interaction is the protein Emp (erythrobl...
